The SAT Preparation class is designed for high school students who would like to sharpen their language art and math skills before taking the newly designed SAT college entrance exam. Classes will be devoted to in-depth preparation for each section of the SAT: Reading, Writing and Language, Math with a calculator, and Math without a calculator. Practice tests will be administered to help students focus their preparation and to develop pacing for the exam. Outside work will be assigned and is considered crucial for the student to realize maximum benefit from the course. The Reading class will emphasize finding evidence in passages to support the correct answers, examining hypotheses and interpreting data. The Writing and Language class will review Standard English conventions, sentence and paragraph structure, and evaluating content for relevant details. The Math classes will focus on linear equations and systems, data analysis, geometry and trigonometry, with an emphasis on solving problems efficiently and strategically. Students are asked to come to class with a writing instrument.
