Introduction to Ikebana

Call 720-561-5968 to register

This step-by-step class will walk you through the process of making a beautiful traditional Japanese Ikebana flower arrangement. Students will learn the principals of Ikenobo Ikebana which is the original, oldest (550 years) and largest Ikebana school in Japan. The instructor will present both philosophy and technique to create classic Ikebana arrangements with individual hands-on instruction for each attendee. The classes will stress using flowers in a natural way to bring out their inner beauty. No previous experience is necessary. In each class, students will put together an arrangement that they can bring home to enjoy. Please bring your Ikebana container (Pyrex ovenware may work) and a large Kenzan (pin frog) with a diameter of 3.5” or larger. A materials fee of $40 is payable to the instructor in class for flowers that you will take home.
Please read: Students should bring to class: their own bowl containers to arrange in or traditional Japanese style containers will be available to borrow (for a deposit) or purchase. Students will also need to bring a metal "frog" (heavy metal needle flower holder), strong scissors or branch pruner, absorbent towel, paper bag for clippings/trash, notebook, and water bucket. Japanese "frogs" ("kenzan") will be available for purchase for $20.00. If students need to use a container or purchase a kenzan please contact the teacher one week prior to class starting. A materials fee of $40 is payable to the instructor in class for flowers that you will get to take home.
