« back to classes page
This workshop combines papercraft, ink-making, bookbinding, nature study, nature art, and poetry.  Each student will choose a spirit animal from a compendium of local pollinators.  Exploring a variety of poetic forms, we will create mixed media montages of each animal's life cycle.  Using recycled and natural materials, we will make seed paper and seed balls, selecting seeds that will grow into the flowers most preferred by our spirit animals.  We will make berry and walnut ink and write seed-paper postcards to both pollinator and planet.  Exploring the passageways among invention, composition, and revision, we will write and rewrite and write again in our notebooks and then make tiny-book chapbooks for our poetry, transcribing our chosen words onto the tiny page.  Finally, we'll make tiny flower-pot meadows--fairy gardens that provide the soil for our seeds and the stage for our postcards and poetry.
