What do kites and poems have in common? They are both handcrafted by free spirits, the inner child, the wild child, the quiet visionary. Further, they are both powered by the imagination, and they both take flight. We'll use recycled materials, rulers, and both arithmetic and geometry to construct our own Benjamin Franklin kites. Then taking inspiration from wind, wings, and all our hopes and dreams, we'll write wishes in the form of haiku, acrostic poems, concrete poems, and odes. Next, we'll paste them onto our kites, creating winged chapbooks, poetic flying machines! At the end of the day, we'll take our kites and wishes outside and see just how high we can fly them.
