Unwind after a busy work day by taking a fun hike to Woods Quarry. Follow naturalist Suzanne Michot to one of the historic stone quarries within the City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks. Find out about this unique place and the interesting plants and animals of the area. You’ll also learn some of the history and geology of the quarry. The hike is approximately 2.5 miles round trip with a 700 foot elevation gain. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water and rain gear.  Meet at the Chautauqua Dining Hall. No pets, please. Please fill out an adult waiver prior to the hike. The waiver can be found on our website.

Discover how the histories of Chautauqua and Open Space Mountain Parks (OSMP) are woven together. We will stop along the way to view historic Chautauqua and OSMP structures and observe where Lyons sandstone was quarried for some of the buildings in Boulder. As summer progresses, so do the wildflowers. August brings sunflowers and other late-season beauties.  Take an easy hike on open space trails to practice your identification skills and learn new ones. You will find out about flower families and how these plants are named. The hike will be approximately 3 miles with an elevation gain of 400 feet and will start from the Chautauqua Dining Hall.
