Chess play has shown to have many benefits.  Students who play regularly show improvement in analytical skills, planning and concentration skills.  Some research has shown a correlation between chess play and academic success.  Students in this class will learn chess etiquette, piece movement, and basic tactics.  They will learn basic openings, middle game play and checkmate strategies.  Topics will include En Passant’, castling, thinking skills, and ways to avoid blunders.  Class sessions will be divided into skill level groups as needed so that students can benefit regardless of their current level of play.
